Position title: Ph.D. Candidate: Counseling Psychology, University of Houston
Taewon Kim is a PhD candidate at the University of Houston. She is currently completing her doctoral internship at the Colorado State University Health Network (CSUHN). She will be transitioning to faculty in counseling psychology at the University of Florida (UF) in the summer of 2023. Her parents’ and her work experiences, the course of her life in South Korea, and her adaptation in the United States have informed her research mission: helping economically and racially marginalized groups thrive by supporting their access to decent work and well-being. Based on this overarching goal, she has developed three research programs. First, she aims to (a) examine the influence of different manifestations of social class (e.g., subjective social status, social mobility, and capital) and concurrent marginalization (e.g., classism) on access to decent work and wellbeing; (b) investigate how economic marginalization and other forms of oppression (e.g., racism, xenophobia, and linguistic marginalization) intersect for international populations; and (c) develop intersectional interventions.
